The Lytle Pirates will square off against the Hondo Owls at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams are strolling into their matches after big wins in their previous games.
Lytle is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. Their pitchers stepped up to hand Dilley a 22-0 shutout on Tuesday. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest win of the season.
Toby Davila was incredible, getting on base in all six of his plate appearances with three stolen bases, four runs, and five RBI. What's more, he posted four hits, the most he's had since back in April of 2024. Weston Jackson was another key player, scoring three runs while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances.
Lytle always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .633. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Hondo waltzed into their game on Tuesday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They were the clear victors by an 8-0 margin over the Javelinas. With that victory, the Owls brought their scoring average up to 6.2 runs per game.
Anthony Garza and Josiah Quintanilla did most of the damage at the plate: Garza scored two runs while going 1-for-3, while Quintanilla went 2-for-4 with three RBI and one double. Kolby Gear also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.
Lytle has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 11-10 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.2 runs over those games. Hondo's victory bumped their record up to 9-4-1.
Friday's match might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Lytle has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .436. However, it's not like Hondo struggles in that department as they've averaged .468. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Lytle skirted past Hondo 6-4 when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Will Lytle repeat their success, or does Hondo has a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
