Springfield Southeast has enjoyed a three-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will take on the Springfield Senators at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Hopefully Springfield Southeast focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 18 on Saturday.
Springfield Southeast suffered their biggest defeat since December 9, 2023 on Saturday. They were beaten by Quincy 68-29. While losing is never fun, Springfield Southeast can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 289th, while Quincy is ranked 41st).
Despite the loss, Springfield Southeast had strong showings from Marisa Gant, who scored seven points along with two steals, and Rakiyah Coleman, who scored seven points along with seven rebounds. Gant hasn't dropped below two steals for six straight games.
Even though they lost, Springfield Southeast smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Quincy only pulled down three offensive rebounds.
Meanwhile, Springfield waltzed into their contest on Saturday with four straight wins but they left with five. They blew past Decatur Eisenhower 66-36 at home. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest win Springfield has posted against Decatur Eisenhower since January 16, 2020.
Springfield Southeast's loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 7-12. As for Springfield, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven matches, which provided a nice bump to their 12-7 record this season.
Springfield Southeast and Springfield were neck-and-neck when the teams last played back in February of 2023, but Springfield Southeast came up empty-handed after a 41-40 defeat. Can Springfield Southeast avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
