Edgewood can finally bid farewell to their three-game losing streak thanks to their game. They secured a 46-42 W over Odyssey Charter School.
Edgewood found their leader in underclassman Brayden Wasdin, who scored 20 points along with three steals. Wasdin has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last six times he's played. Eddie Monterrubio was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with two steals.
Melbourne Central Catholic suffered their closest defeat yet this season on Monday. They fell just short of Brevard Christian by a score of 50-48. Melbourne Central Catholic's loss continues an unfortunate trend for the squad, making it three in a row.
Despite their loss, Melbourne Central Catholic saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Hayden Deane, who scored 18 points along with seven rebounds and three steals, was perhaps the best of all. Deane is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 15 or more in the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Henry Lane, who scored 14 points along with five rebounds.
Edgewood's victory bumped their record up to 5-13. As for Melbourne Central Catholic, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-5.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Edgewood have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 25.9 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Melbourne Central Catholic struggles in that department as they've been averaging 30.1 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Edgewood couldn't quite finish off Melbourne Central Catholic in their previous matchup back in January of 2023 and fell 52-50. Can Edgewood avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
