Montebello (Calif.) had its advantage, which at one point stood at 14 points, drop to eight before the final whistle blew on a 24-16 victory over
Northview (Covina, Calif.).
After taking the lead on a
Ramiro Arreola touchdown run in the second quarter, the Oilers were up 17-10 at the half.
With the win Montebello extended its winning streak to seven games. Montebello defeated Schurr 14-7 last week.
MHS had given up an average of 15.2 points prior to the contest. Northview's 16 points were well below their season average of 29.4 per game.
The defeat comes as a step back for Northview, which notched a 35-7 victory over Nogales in its previous outing. The loss broke Northview's three-game winning streak.
