Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but unfortunately for The Eldon Mustangs, they weren't the ones who walked away with it. They were dealt a 72-36 defeat at the hands of Ava on Friday. Eldon was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 50-0.
Eldon's lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Hunter Hees, who threw for 398 yards and three touchdowns, and also punched in a touchdown on the ground. Hees has been hot recently, having posted three or more passing touchdowns the last four times he's played. Zachary Smithson was in the mix as well, providing Eldon with three touchdowns.
It was another big night for Rylin Dickson, who rushed for 188 yards and five touchdowns on only eight carries, and also picked up 32 receiving yards. Dickson was no stranger to the big play, taking off on a dash that went for 69 yards. Hunter Adams also helped out as he racked up 145 rushing yards.
Another reason for the win was Ava's imposing defensive line, which managed to get into the backfield for eight sacks. The heavy lifting was done by Leroy Horinek and Logan Churchill who racked up six sacks between them.
Eldon has been struggling recently, as they've lost seven of their last eight contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-8 record this season. As for Ava, the win for they keeps them at an undefeated 10-0.
Eldon does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Ava will square off against Mountain Grove at TBD on Friday. Mountain Grove is looking to tack on another W to their four-game streak on the road.
