Southside Christian is 7-0 against Victory Christian Academy since January of 2021, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Thursday. The Southside Christian Patriots will head out on the road to face off against the Victory Christian Academy Soldiers at 6:30 p.m. Both teams come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Even though Open Bible Christian scored an imposing 59 points on Tuesday, Southside Christian still came out on top. Southside Christian took down Open Bible Christian 73-59. The victory was familiar territory for Southside Christian who now have three in a row.
Southside Christian got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Jon Jon Page out in front who scored 23 points. Page has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last five times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of LJ Boyd, who scored 19 points.
Victory Christian Academy can finally bid farewell to their four-game losing streak thanks to their game on Friday. They came out on top against Crossroads Christian Academy by a score of 59-47. The high flying offensive effort was a huge turnaround for Victory Christian Academy considering their 24-point performance the matchup before.
Victory Christian Academy can attribute much of their success to Chris Belcher, who scored 20 points along with eight rebounds and six steals. That's the first time this season that Belcher scored 15 or more points. Another player making a difference was Nelson Palacios, who scored 15 points along with five rebounds and two steals.
Southside Christian has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a nice bump to their 9-6 record this season. As for Victory Christian Academy, the win got them back to even at 5-5.
Thursday's contest will pit two of the most dominant players against one another: Page and Palacios. Page has been dynamite this season: he has averaged 17.1 points. For his part, Palacios has averaged 13.3 points, 1.6 steals, and 5.3 rebounds.
Southside Christian was able to grind out a solid win over Victory Christian Academy in their previous matchup back in December of 2023, winning 61-50. The rematch might be a little tougher for Southside Christian since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
