The Noxubee County Tigers will look to defend their home field on Friday against the South Pike Eagles at 7:00 p.m. Noxubee County knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past five matchups -- so hopefully South Pike likes a good challenge.
Noxubee County put the finishing touches on their fifth blowout victory of the season on Friday. They blew past McLaurin 48-0 at home. Given Noxubee County's advantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi football rankings (they are ranked 62nd, while McLaurin is ranked 272nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Kamario Taylor was his usual excellent self, throwing for 134 yards and four touchdowns while completing 77.8% of his passes. Taylor is on a roll when it comes to passing touchdowns, as he's now passed for three or more in the last five games he's played. Another big playmaker for Noxubee County was Najayvious Jones, who returned a punt for a touchdown.
Meanwhile, South Pike was able to grind out a solid victory over Port Gibson on Thursday, taking the game 24-14. The victory was just what South Pike needed coming off of a 42-20 loss in their prior matchup.
South Pike had a senior duo take command as Martavius Jones rushed for 87 yards and two touchdowns on only seven carries and Tedarrius Aych rushed for 95 yards and two touchdowns on only 11 carries. Jones was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 63 yards.
Noxubee County's win was their third straight at home, bumping their overall record up to 6-4. They've been dominating during the contests in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 38 points. As for South Pike, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 7-3 record this season.
