A Region II recap October 22, 2013
Southside Christian's John Walker recorded the longest rushing play in A Region II this season in his game against Christ Church Episcopal last week. Walker scampered for 56 yards on the play and finished with 61 on the day as his team fell to the Cavaliers.
St. Joseph's Catholic added to the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Whitmire, 54-8. This was the team's eighth consecutive win.
Walker threw for 183 yards and 2 touchdowns. He went 20-34 with 0 interceptions.
Alex Ellison was the most successful running back in the league this week. He ran for 75 yards on 9 carries as the Wolverines lost to Christ Church Episcopal. Teammate Jamaal Holley added to the ground attack by rushing for 11 yards.
Southside Christian's offense cannot be tamed this season and the Sabres feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Walker has thrown for 1,493 yards and 16 touchdowns this season, while Boggs has 65 catches for 895 yards.
The top two teams in A Region II will face off this week when first place St. Joseph's Catholic takes on second place Christ Church Episcopal.
Fans will be thrilled by an exciting game in the secondary when Steve Lockwood's team's Boggs goes up against Whitmire's West Jenkins.
Next week's game between the Sabres and Donald Addis' team will feature an aerial matchup as Walker tests his arm against Jenkins' defensive ability.
There should be lots of points scored when the Wolverines and Southside Christian face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, Whitmire comes in having scored 64 this season, while the Sabres have scored 158. The Wolverines scored 8 points last week as they lost to St. Joseph's Catholic.
The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when Don Frost's team takes on Joe Hyland's team. The Cavaliers have allowed 59 points this season, while the Knights have given up 53. Christ Church Episcopal allowed 12 points last week as it bested Southside Christian.
The Sabres fell to the Cavaliers 66-12 last week, the largest margin of any game. Walker was a bright spot for Southside Christian, as he ran for 61 yards in the defeat.
