Baseball Recap: Mercyhurst Prep Makes It Five in a Row at Home

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Mercyhurst Prep). They were the clear victors by a 13-0 margin over the Seneca Bobcats on Thursday. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest win of the season.

Josh Majczyk made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Majczyk was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Rocco Almonte, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBI, two runs, and one double. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. Alex Manendo was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 1-for-2.

Mercyhurst Prep was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .409. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Seneca only posted a batting average of .000.

Mercyhurst Prep's victory was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 4-0. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.4 runs over those games. As for Seneca, they are on a 12-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-8.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Mercyhurst Prep will face off against Titusville at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Seneca, they will challenge Union City at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
