Providence Day is 8-2 against Charlotte Christian since November of 2020 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Chargers will take on the Knights at 7:00 p.m. Providence Day knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 31 points or more in their past 11 matchups -- so hopefully Charlotte Christian likes a good challenge.
Providence Day is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. They claimed a resounding 41-7 victory over Cannon [Cannon/Concord Academy]. The win continues a trend for the Chargers in their matchups with the Cougars: they've now won four in a row.
Zaid Lott produced another solid effort throwing for 223 yards and five TDs while completing 71.4% of his passes, and also rushing for 47 yards and one score. He is on a roll when it comes to passing touchdowns, as he's now passed for three or more in each of the last three games he's played. Max Cassell was in the mix as well, providing Providence Day with two touchdowns.
Wins are hard to come by when you can't run the rock, something Providence Day proved: they limited Cannon [Cannon/Concord Academy] to a paltry 1.7 yards per carry. While two picked up at least seven total tackles, Jace Goodwin stood above the rest. He picked up five sacks and made seven total tackles. Providence Day didn't have any issues in that department, having averaged 6.7.

Providence Day's defense also made the game a nightmare for Lucas Lopez, racking up nine sacks. Goodwin was particularly dangerous to the passing game, picking up five himself. Thanks to that big game, he is now up to 15.5 sacks on the season. Hudson Clavin was another major factor on D, picking up a sack and making seven total tackles (3.0 for loss).
Meanwhile, Charlotte Christian is ranked highly in their home state and on Friday they took on another highly ranked team in the form of Rabun Gap-Nacoochee. The Knights came out on top against the Eagles by a score of 55-48. The game was the first time the Knights have beaten the Eagles on their field since November 11, 2022.
Providence Day better keep an eye on Jamal Rule. He was instrumental in Charlotte Christian's win, rushing for 189 yards and a pair of TDs, while also picking up 126 receiving yards and one score. Rule's longest reception was for an incredible 71 yards. Another player making a difference was Tate Estep, who picked up 96 receiving yards and one touchdown.
Providence Day's record now sits at 12-0. As for Charlotte Christian, their record is now 7-5.
Friday's game might be decided on the ground. Providence Day has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 184.5 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Charlotte Christian struggles in that department as they've been averaging 159.3 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's contest turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Providence Day took their victory against Charlotte Christian when the teams last played back in October by a conclusive 46-20 score. Will the Chargers repeat their success, or do the Knights have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
