Cleveland Hill and Griffith Institute are an even 4-4 against one another since April of 2017, but likely not for long. The Golden Eagles will take on the Griffins at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Cleveland Hill lost 16-2 to Alden on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, Griffith Institute got the win against Tonawanda on Wednesday by a conclusive 16-4. The Griffins might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six games by six runs or more this season.
Olivia Mesch was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing six innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off six hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances. She was even better at the plate, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with one home run, five RBI, and three runs. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Grace Ricci was incredible, getting on base in all five of her plate appearances with five runs, two stolen bases, and one triple. She continues to improve, besting her previous run total in each of the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Lilly Enser, who went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, one run, and one double.
Griffith Institute kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in five consecutive contests.
Griffith Institute pushed their record up to 8-3 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. As for Cleveland Hill, their loss dropped their record down to 0-5.
Cleveland Hill suffered a grim 17-3 defeat to Griffith Institute when the teams last played back in May of 2023. Can the Golden Eagles avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
