It was a good run, but the Eastside Lions unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Saturday. They fell 56-44 to Santa Paula. While losing is never fun, Eastside can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 961st, while Santa Paula is ranked 407th).
Eastside's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jaden Carter, who scored 12 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kenneth Harris, who scored 11 points along with two blocks.
Eastside's defeat dropped their record down to 5-16. As for Santa Paula, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests, which provided a nice bump to their 17-5 record this season.
Eastside will square off against Legacy Christian Academy at 2:00 p.m. on Monday. Legacy Christian Academy knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past three matchups -- so hopefully Eastside likes a good challenge. As for Santa Paula, they will head out on the road to take on Fillmore at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Fillmore is out to stop a six-game streak of losses at home.
