The St. Mary's Knights will head out to take on the Sunnyslope Vikings at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. St. Mary's is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.8 runs per game this season.
St. Mary's not only won on Friday, but they posted their biggest win since April 3rd (when they won 16-3). Everything went their way against Shadow Mountain as they made off with an 11-2 win. The victory was some much needed relief for the Knights as it spelled an end to their four-game losing streak.
St. Mary's got a massive performance out of Giahni Ruiz, who went 1-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Analysa Mejia was another key player, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
St. Mary's always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .548. They are a perfect 8-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Meanwhile, after low-scoring totals in their previous three match, Sunnyslope brought some dynamite into their most recent game. They came out on top against Gila Ridge by a score of 10-6 on Friday. The Vikings haven't had any issues with the Hawks recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.
The team relied heavily on Sam Hyde, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and two RBI. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Sydney Benavidez, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI and one double.
St. Mary's record is now 11-15. As for Sunnyslope, their record now sits at 12-16.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Monday. St. Mary's hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.4 home runs per game. However, it's not like Sunnyslope struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.9 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
St. Mary's might still be hurting after the 14-3 defeat they got from Sunnyslope in their previous meeting back in March of 2023. Can the Knights avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
