The Vasquez Mustangs will take on the Valencia Vikings at 3:15 p.m. on Wednesday. Vasquez is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10 runs per game this season.
Vasquez is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They blew past Palmdale Academy Charter School 27-1 on Tuesday. The win continues a trend for the Mustangs in their matchups with the Jaguars: they've now won four in a row.

Camila Castaneda and Daniella Escamilla made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Castaneda struck out eight batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Meanwhile, Escamilla pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Castaneda has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. At the plate, Castaneda got on base in four of her six plate appearances with four runs, one stolen base, and one RBI, while Escamilla fired off two home runs, three runs, and three RBI while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. Those four runs gave Castaneda a new career-high.
In other batting news, Faith Nasrallah was incredible, firing off three home runs, nine RBI, and four runs while getting on base in all six of her plate appearances. Those nine RBI gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Cambria McCormick, who got on base in all five of her plate appearances with four stolen bases, five runs, and one RBI.
Vasquez always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .854. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
The home team had come away the winner the last four times Valencia and West Ranch had met, but sadly for the fans who attended this one that wasn't the case. The Vikings came up short against the Wildcats on Tuesday, falling 11-2. The loss continues a trend for the Vikings in their meetings with the Wildcats: they've now lost three in a row.
Valencia saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Blair Rune, who went 1-for-4 with one RBI.
Valencia's defeat dropped their record down to 9-7. As for Vasquez, their victory bumped their record up to 13-8-1.
Valencia's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Vasquez has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 8.9 hits per game. It's a different story for Valencia, though, as they've been averaging 9 hits. Given Vasquez's sizable advantage in that area, the Vikings will need to find a way to close that gap.
Vasquez couldn't quite get it done against Valencia in their previous meeting back in February of 2023 as they fell 9-4. Can the Mustangs avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
