The Vista del Lago Eagles entered their tilt with the Christian Brothers Falcons with eight consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with nine. Vista del Lago walked away with a 35-28 win over Christian Brothers on Friday. Given Vista del Lago's advantage in MaxPreps' California football rankings (they are ranked 117th, while Christian Brothers is ranked 285th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
It was another big night for Johnny Koett, who threw for 326 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 10.9 yards per attempt. Jack Cromwell and his 98 yards on the ground were also a key factor in Vista del Lago's victory.
Vista del Lago's defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB four times. Christian Brothers' QB won't forget Max Vota anytime soon given Vota sacked him four times.
Despite the loss, Christian Brothers still got an impressive performance from Jay Cummings, who rushed for 128 yards and two touchdowns. Cummings hasn't dropped below 100 rushing yards for four straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Deakon Holden, who threw for 153 yards and two touchdowns.
Vista del Lago's win was their eighth straight on the road (dating back to last season), which bumped their overall record up to 9-1. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 1-9 El Camino and 2-8 Capital Christian (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 35% over those games). As for Christian Brothers, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-4.
Vista del Lago does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Christian Brothers will be playing at home against Yuba City at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
