This season hasn't been kind to the Hialeah Thoroughbreds, who are still winless after their sixth matchup. They lost to Varela at home by a decisive 38-24 margin on Wednesday.
Varela's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Leia Vanterpool, who scored 13 points along with seven rebounds. Alyssa Azcuy was another key contributor, scoring four points along with seven steals.
Hialeah's loss was their fourth straight at home, which bumped their record down to 0-6. As for Varela, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a nice bump to their 5-3 record this season.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Hialeah will challenge Jackson at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. Jackson comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 21 points in their last three games, a trend the squad is of course eager to reverse. Varela will be staying on the road on Friday to face off against Coral Park at 3:30 p.m. on December 15th.
