The Curry Yellowjackets will challenge the Colbert County Indians at 2:00 p.m. on Monday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Curry 2.6, Colbert County 2.7) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Things were looking good for Curry after they put the first run on the board on Thursday, but unfortunately for them things went downhill from there. They fell just short of Hamilton by a score of 5-4. The Yellowjackets have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
CC Moore spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five runs (all of which were unearned) on six hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season.
At the plate, Ansley Brown made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went a perfect 3-for-3 with four stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 1.1 stolen bases per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Ralee Dunagan, who went 1-for-3 with one home run, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Meanwhile, Colbert County entered their tilt with Lauderdale County on Thursday with ten consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with 11. They walked away with a 5-1 victory over the Tigers. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last six times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
Colbert County also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and she was also dialed-in: Makayli Davis gave up only one earned run on four hits and racked up 17 Ks.
On the hitting side, Creleigh Gargis was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted over her last 11 contests. Another player making a difference was Hallie Holland, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.
Colbert County hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least five batters in four consecutive matchups.
Curry's defeat was their first in the region, dropping their region record down to 4-1 and their overall record down to 14-8-1. As for Colbert County, their win bumped their record up to 24-3.
Monday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Curry has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .434. However, it's not like Colbert County struggles in that department as they've averaged .431. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Curry came out on top in a nail-biter against Colbert County in their previous matchup back in March, sneaking past 2-0. Do the Yellowjackets have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Indians turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
