The Wortham Bulldogs will be taking part in a tournament against the Elkhart Elks on Friday.
Wortham kicked off their season on the road on Tuesday and hit a couple of potholes. They lost 9-2 to Rice. Sadly, the loss continues a streak the team started last season, making it six in a row.
Wortham saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Megan Cryer, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run and two RBI.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Elkhart). They were the clear victor by a 22-0 margin over Kemp on Friday. With that victory, the Elks brought their scoring average up to 8.3 runs per game.
Rylee Lohmeyer made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. That's the fewest hits she has allowed since back in March of 2024. She was also big at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing a base while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. What's more, she posted two hits, the most she's had since back in April of 2024.
In other batting news, Ella Lively was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, seven RBI, and three runs. What's more, she posted two doubles, the most she's had since back in March of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Marisa Denny, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with three runs, four RBI, and one stolen base.
Elkhart was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .737. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .312 or higher in three consecutive contests.
Wortham came up short against Elkhart in their previous matchup back in March of 2024, falling 6-1. Can Wortham avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
