Softball Recap: Neumann Makes It 16 in a Row at Home

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Neumann had no problem doing just that on Wednesday. Everything went their way against the Bradenton Christian Panthers as they made off with an 11-4 win. The Celtics might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 11 matchups by six runs or more this season.

Sophia Escobar made a splash no matter where she played. She struck out 11 batters over seven innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with three RBI and one run. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Cecilia Spencer, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March. Brooke Shefsky was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base.

Neumann pushed their record up to 17-4 with the victory, which was their 16th straight at home dating back to last season. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games. As for Bradenton Christian, the loss snapped their winning streak at four games and leaves them with a 8-11 record.

Looking ahead, Neumann will challenge Shorecrest Prep at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Chargers will roll in looking for their fifth straight victory, something the Celtics surely won't give up without a fight. Bradenton Christian does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
