The Preston Knights's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Wednesday after their sixth straight loss. They opened the new year with a less-than-successful 52-48 loss to they. They found out winning isn't easy when you're outrebounded 13 to 5 on offense.
Several Knights players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Easton Hayes, who scored 15 points along with five rebounds and three steals. Those three steals set a new season-high mark for him. Aaron White was another key contributor, scoring 11 points.
Even though they lost, Preston were working as a unit and finished the game with 13 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.
Among those leading the charge was Jack Stanislawczyk, who scored 12 points along with eight steals. Those eight steals set a new season-high mark for him. The team also got some help courtesy of Patrick Liller, who scored 15 points along with six rebounds.
Preston's defeat was their 16th straight on the road dating back to last season, which bumped their record down to 2-6. As for Keyser, their victory bumped their record up to 3-5.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Preston will take on Lewis County at 5:45 p.m. on Friday. Lewis County presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Preston in West Virginia (Lewis County is ranked 19th, while Preston is ranked 90th). As for Keyser, they will stay at home for another game and welcome Berkeley Springs at 7:30 p.m. on January 5th. Berkeley Springs and Keyser are at an even 5-5 over their past ten head-to-heads.
