The Pickerington Central Tigers will head out on the road to face off against the Hilliard Darby Panthers at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Pickerington Central is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.2 runs per game this season.
It was a proper cat-fight when Pickerington Central challenged Liberty Union on Friday. The Tigers lost 7-1 to the Lions. Having soared to a lofty 13 runs in the game before, the Tigers couldn't push the score so high this time.
Olivia Achtermann spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered seven runs (all of which were unearned) on seven hits.
On the hitting side, Mycah Massey was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one home run.
Meanwhile, Hilliard Darby entered their tilt with Upper Arlington on Friday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They put the hurt on the Golden Bears with a sharp 16-8 victory. The Panthers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine matches by seven runs or more this season.
Hilliard Darby got a big performance out of Lorelai Gum, who got on base in three of her five plate appearances with one triple, one run, and one RBI. That triple was Gum's first of the season. Another player making a difference was Taylor Cahill, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.
Hilliard Darby kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in 18 consecutive contests.
Hilliard Darby's win bumped their record up to 16-6. As for Pickerington Central, their loss dropped their record down to 13-11.
Hilliard Darby's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Pickerington Central has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 10.8 hits per game. It's a different story for Hilliard Darby, though, as they've been averaging 9.5 hits. Given Pickerington Central's sizable advantage in that area, the Panthers will need to find a way to close that gap.
Pickerington Central was able to grind out a solid victory over Hilliard Darby in their previous meeting back in May of 2021, winning 5-2. Will the Tigers repeat their success, or do the Panthers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
