There wasn't a ton of movement in the power rankings this week, but there was certainly enough to keep things interesting. A special shoutout goes to Johnston's senior Andrew Nord, who scored five total touchdowns in the team's most recent match.
Welcome
Bettendorf was the better team in every quarter against Burlington last week and consequently the better team overall. Bettendorf put the hurt on Burlington with a conclusive 65 - 0 victory. The MaxPreps rankings were spot on as they projected Bettendorf as the clear winner. The victory also thrust it into the power rankings, where the team now holds the 25th spot.
This Week's Big Showdown
On paper, the match between Ankeny Centennial (4th in the MaxPreps state rankings) and Southeast Polk (49th) looked as though it might be one of the more compelling ones, but things did not play out that way on the field. Ankeny Centennial blew past Southeast Polk 31 - 10. Even if it didn't bump Ankeny Centennial up the rankings, the win at least kept the team from dropping.
No Stoppin 'Em
There were a lot of high-scoring contests in the power rankings last week, but the 87-point effort in this one put it right at the top of the list. Decorah-North Winneshiek finished its game with a 49 - 38 win. The victory boosted it a satisfying six spots in the power rankings.
Next Week's Big Game
The big showdown in the power rankings this week is between Harlan (9th in the power rankings) and Lewis Central (1st). Both teams have their heads held high after dominating their previous opponents. Lewis Central and Harlan both have plenty of landslide victories under their belts (Lewis Central with six and Harlan with four), but only one can come away triumphant this week. We'll find out who that is soon.
