Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Vance Charter). They blew past the Excelsior Classical Academy Flying Lions 85-64 on Friday. The Knights have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won eight games by 21 points or more this season.
Leading Vance Charter to victory were Nick Pentoney and Caleb Towne. Pentoney posted 22 points, while Towne earned 20 points. That's the most points Towne has posted since back in November of 2023. The team also got some help courtesy of Gary Wilkins, who put up 12 points.
Excelsior Classical Academy's loss came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Tyler Hill, who had 18 points along with eight rebounds and eight steals. Another player making a difference was Hunter Goss, who dropped a double-double with 15 points and 11 boards.
Vance Charter has been performing well recently as they've won 11 of their last 13 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 13-5 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 67.6 points over those games. As for Excelsior Classical Academy, they dropped their record down to 11-10 with the defeat, which was their third straight on the road.
Looking ahead, Vance Charter will venture away from home to challenge Eno River Academy at 7:30 p.m. on February 14th.
