Exeter took a 21-run loss the last time they faced off against Reedley, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Monarchs never let the Pirates get on the board and left with a 1-0 win on Tuesday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Monarchs.
Exeter's victory was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Leila Whitworth, who went 1-for-3 with one double and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Washington Union can bid farewell to their six-game losing streak thanks to their game on Tuesday. Everything went their way against Central Valley Christian as they made off with a 14-2 win.
The team relied heavily on Teagen Moles, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with five RBI, one triple, and one double. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Makenzie Montes De Oca, who went 1-for-2 with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Washington Union always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .533. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Washington Union's victory bumped their record up to 6-15. As for Exeter, their win bumped their record up to 16-9.
Washington Union's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Friday. Exeter has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.3 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Washington Union, though, as they've been averaging only 3.2 strikeouts. Will Exeter keep running through batters, or will the Panthers buck the trend?
