The Cairo Pilots won the last time they faced the Cobden Appleknockers, and things went their way on Monday too. Cairo was the clear victor by a 70-47 margin over Cobden. Winning is a bit easier when you make seven more threes than your opponent, as Cairo did.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Cairo to victory, but perhaps none more so than Shanti Taylor, who scored 19 points. Taylor is on a roll when it comes to points, as she's now scored 19 or more in the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Sa'Layah Purdiman, who scored 15 points.
Dixie Kaufmann and Natalie Franklin certainly did their best on Monday to avoid the loss. Kaufmann scored 14 points, while Franklin dropped a double-double on 15 points and 14 rebounds. Franklin has been hot recently, having posted ten or more rebounds the last 18 times she's played. Dora Funes was another key contributor, scoring eight points.
Cairo is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games, which provided a nice bump to their 9-17 record this season. As for Cobden, they dropped their record down to 7-18 with that defeat, which was their fifth straight at home.
Cairo will head out on the road to square off against Paducah Tilghman at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Cairo is facing Paducah Tilghman at the right time seeing as Paducah Tilghman is stuck on a 13-game losing streak. As for Cobden, they will head out on the road to take on Elverado/Zeigler-Royalton at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Hopefully Elverado/Zeigler-Royalton focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 48 on Wednesday.
