Softball Recap: Roncalli Wins Going Away Against Kankakee Valley

Roncalli got themselves on the board against Kankakee Valley on Saturday, but Kankakee Valley never followed suit. They blew past the Kougars 10-0. The result was nothing new for the Royals, who have now won 13 games by six runs or more so far this season.

Elise Baker made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out 11 over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

In other batting news, Roncalli got a massive performance out of Sarah Hofmann, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three doubles and two runs. Those three hits gave Hofmann a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Natalie Summers, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.

Roncalli was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .417. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Kankakee Valley only posted a batting average of .118.

Roncalli has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 20-5 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. As for Kankakee Valley, the defeat snapped their winning streak at three games and leaves them with a 13-11 record.

Roncalli wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next contest, a 6-5 loss against Harrison on the 17th. As for Kankakee Valley, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 10-1 win against West Central on the 19th.
