The Rusk Eagles will head out on the road to face off against the Pleasant Grove Hawks at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Both teams are coming into the game red-hot, with Rusk sitting on three straight victories and Pleasant Grove on ten.
Last Friday, Rusk was able to grind out a solid win over Canton, taking the game 21-13.
Rusk's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Bricion Griffin led the charge by rushing for 149 yards, while also picking up 48 receiving yards. Another player making a difference was Brady Barrier, who threw for 79 yards and two touchdowns.
Meanwhile, Pleasant Grove can now show off six landslide victories after their most recent match on Friday. They breezed by Spring Hill at home to the tune of 70-30. Given Pleasant Grove's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 61st, while Spring Hill is ranked 549th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Rusk's win bumped their record up to 6-4. As for Pleasant Grove, their victory was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 10-0.
Rusk came up short against Pleasant Grove in their previous meeting back in November of 2016, falling 26-14. Can Rusk avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
