Round Lake hasn't had much luck against Lakes recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Panthers will challenge the Eagles at 4:45 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
Round Lake came out on top against Streamwood on Wednesday thanks in part to the team's impressive nine-run second inning. The Panthers never let the Sabres get on the board and left with a 15-0 win. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for the Panthers' hitters, who had struggled in the games prior.

Piper Berry was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out nine over four innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and four RBI. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Mya Hagi, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with three stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. Those three runs gave her a new career-high. Arianna Cabral was another key player, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Round Lake always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .758. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Lakes). They were the clear victors by a 22-9 margin over Grayslake North on Tuesday. The team's explosion at the plate also rewarded the Eagles with their most commanding win of the season.
Liv Tautges was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with one home run, seven RBI, and four runs. She also hit a double, marking her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Zoey Christian, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs, four RBI, and one stolen base.
The victory made it two in a row for Lakes and bumps their season record up to 9-9. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.5 runs over those games. As for Round Lake, their victory ended a 17-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 3-10.
Round Lake might still be hurting after the 11-1 loss they got from Lakes in their previous meeting back in April. Can the Panthers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
