The Rayne Wolves will take on the Teurlings Catholic Rebels at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
Rayne had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 14-run drubbing they dealt Westgate on Tuesday. Rayne's pitcher stepped up to hand Westgate a 14-0 shutout.
Caydon Stakes looked comfortable as he pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. The dominant performance gave him a new career-low in hits.
On the hitting side, Mark Frederick was a standout: he scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-2. He also hit a double, marking his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Lon Paul Moody, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3.
Rayne always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .769. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, after low-scoring totals in their previous four contests, Teurlings Catholic brought some dynamite into their most recent matchup. They put the hurt on David Thibodaux with a sharp 11-0 victory on Tuesday. The Rebels haven't had any issues with the Bulldogs recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive win against them.
Dylan Helms looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Jack Purser, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-2. Ryan Berard was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-2.
Teurlings Catholic pushed their record up to 16-3 with the victory, which was their 12th straight at home dating back to last season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Rayne, they are on a roll lately: they've won 12 of their last 15 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-5 record this season.
Rayne beat Teurlings Catholic 11-7 when the teams last played back in March of 2019. Does Rayne have another victory up their sleeve, or will Teurlings Catholic turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
