The Southwest Georgia Academy Warriors suffered their biggest loss since November 21, 2023 on Saturday. They were the victim of a tough 64-44 defeat at the hands of Brentwood. While losing is never fun, Southwest Georgia Academy can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 223rd, while Brentwood is ranked 79th).
Several Warriors players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Ella Ashley, who scored 18 points along with five rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Carmen Scott, who scored eight points.
Brentwood's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Cadence English led the charge by scoring 18 points along with nine rebounds and two steals. English hasn't dropped below eight rebounds for 15 straight games. Another player making a difference was AnneMarie Sheppard, who scored 20 points along with five steals.
Southwest Georgia Academy bumped their record down to 7-8 with that defeat, which was their third straight at home. As for Brentwood, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 13-4.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Southwest Georgia Academy will challenge Grace Christian Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Grace Christian Academy has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. Brentwood on the road again on Monday and play against Thomas Jefferson Academy at 6:00 p.m. on January 22nd. Thomas Jefferson Academy is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
