The Maryvale Panthers were the 69-52 winner over the Camelback Spartans when they last played one another last Tuesday, but their luck changed this time around. Maryvale fell 66-59 to the Spartans on Friday. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Maryvale's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Devin Murphy, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 14 rebounds. Murphy has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last four times he's played. Adrian Stubbs was another key contributor, scoring 15 points along with six rebounds and five assists.
Camelback got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Ilirian Demiri out in front who scored 19 points along with five rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Aken Logan, who dropped a double-double on 26 points and 12 rebounds.
This is the second loss in a row for Maryvale and nudges their season record down to 13-12. As for Camelback, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 14-7.
Maryvale does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Camelback and the Falcons will face off at 7:00 p.m. on February 5th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Carl Hayden Community knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past six contests -- so hopefully the Spartans like a good challenge.
