The NSU University Sharks will head out on the road to square off against the Archbishop McCarthy Mavericks at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. NSU University has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 1,228 points over their last 16 matches.
In what's become a running theme this season, NSU University gave their fans yet another huge win on Thursday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Ransom Everglades 81-41 on the road. Given NSU University's advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 83rd, while Ransom Everglades is ranked 437th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Anthony Ferrer continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring 31 points. That makes it three consecutive games in which he has scored at least a third of NSU University's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Darwin Brooks, who scored 15 points.
Meanwhile, Archbishop McCarthy put the finishing touches on their tenth blowout victory of the season on Wednesday. They blew past Reagan 66-28 at home. For those curious, yes, that was the biggest victory Archbishop McCarthy has managed all season.
Guy Twitty was his usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 24 points and 15 rebounds. He continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was George Sterr, who dropped a double-double on ten points and ten rebounds.
NSU University's victory was their 14th straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 13-3. They've been dominating during the matchups in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 28.93 points. As for Archbishop McCarthy, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 13-3.
Some high-performance offense is likely on the agenda as NSU University and Archbishop McCarthy are some of the highest scoring teams in the league. NSU University hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having only averaged 74.9 points per game. However, it's not like Archbishop McCarthy struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 67.3 points per game. With both teams so easily able to put up points, the only question left is who can run the score up higher.
NSU University and Archbishop McCarthy were neck-and-neck in their previous matchup back in November of 2015, but NSU University came up empty-handed after a 67-66 defeat. Thankfully for NSU University, Victor Arocho (who scored 20 points along with eight rebounds and three steals) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
