The Southaven Chargers's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their third straight loss. Their rough 61-35 defeat to Hernando might stick with them for a while. While losing is never fun, Southaven can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi basketball rankings (they are ranked 174th, while Hernando is ranked 44th).
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Hernando to victory, but perhaps none more so than Fran Kelly, who scored 17 points along with three steals. Kelly is on a roll when it comes to points, as she's now scored 15 or more in the last 19 games she's played. Jaliyah Kelly was another key contributor, scoring 14 points along with three steals.
Southaven's loss was their sixth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 4-13. As for Hernando, the victory was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 16-5.
Coincidentally, the pair will both be playing DeSoto Central the next time they take the court. Hernando will host DeSoto Central at 6:00 p.m. on Monday, while Southaven will head out to face them at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
