The Summit Spartans will head out to face off against the Centennial Cougars at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. Summit's pitching crew has only allowed 3.2 runs per game this season, so Centennial's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
On Saturday, Summit narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past Green Hill 3-2.
Brady North tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run over five innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run any time he's pitched this season.
On the hitting side, Summit's victory was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Brady Woodard, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one double. Todd Schramm also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.
Centennial not only won on Friday, but they posted their biggest win since March 25th (when they won 18-4). They never let Overton get on the board and left with a 7-0 win. The Cougars haven't had any issues with the Bobcats recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive victory against them.
Not much got past Drew McAllister, who gave up just three hits and racked up six Ks to keep Overton off the board. Those six strikeouts set a new season-high mark for McAllister.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Gabriel Shepler, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Ben Gant was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one triple and one run.
Centennial was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .375. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Summit has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-10 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Centennial, their record now sits at 11-16.
Summit came up short against Centennial in their previous matchup back in March of 2024, falling 8-4. Can the Spartans avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
