Basketball Recap: Denver Waldorf Takes a Loss

Denver Waldorf lost against Rocky Mountain Lutheran back in January of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Denver Waldorf Spartans were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 23-22 to the Rocky Mountain Lutheran Eagles. The Spartans just can't catch a break and have now endured four losses in a row.

Denver Waldorf's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Mila Ivano, who posted two points and seven rebounds. The dominant performance also gave Ivano a new career-high in assists (two). Annie O'Meara was another key player, putting up three points along with four steals and four blocks.

Even though they lost, Denver Waldorf smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Rocky Mountain Lutheran only pulled down six offensive boards.

Rocky Mountain Lutheran found their leader in freshman Katy Shade, who went 7 of 15 en route to 14 points and eight boards. Those 14 points set a new season-high mark for Shade. The team also got some help courtesy of Gizelle Luna, who scored three points and three blocks.

Denver Waldorf's loss dropped their record down to 4-6. As for Rocky Mountain Lutheran, their victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 3-10.

Denver Waldorf won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against STEM School Highlands Ranch at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Denver Waldorf has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. As for Rocky Mountain Lutheran, they will host Mile High Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Rocky Mountain Lutheran hasn't scored more than 23 points for three games straight, a trend the squad is eager to reverse.
