The Estancia Eagles will venture away from home to take on the Los Amigos Lobos at 3:15 p.m. on Monday. Estancia has given up an average of 9 runs per game this season, but Monday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Friday just wasn't the day for Estancia's offense. They lost 14-0 to Orange on Friday. The Eagles' loss continues a trend for the squad, making it three in a row.
Los Amigos never got on the board in their matchup last Friday, but that sure wasn't the case in their game against Western last Wednesday. They put the hurt on the Pioneers with a sharp 14-2 win. The Lobos might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five games by eight runs or more this season.
Sophia Gutierrez made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over six innings while giving up just two earned runs off eight hits (and only one walk). Gutierrez was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Azul Pedroza, who went 2-for-3 with four RBI, one stolen base, and one double. Another player making a difference was Leah Lemusu, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3.
Los Amigos was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .462. The last time their batting average was this high was back in February of 2024.
Los Amigos' record is now 9-2. As for Estancia, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-8.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Monday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Estancia has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.3 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Los Amigos struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.9 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Estancia might still be hurting after the 23-6 loss they got from Los Amigos in their previous matchup back in March of 2022. Can the Eagles avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
