Almont recap Sept. 26, 2012
Bell Gardens moved up to 511 from 644 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in Almont. The Lancers climbed the ranks as a result of a 37-21 win over Warren.
Montebello and Pioneer played the most hotly contested game in the league this week, with Montebello eventually emerging with a 20-14 victory. Matthew Saenz threw for 260 yards and two touchdowns in the win.
Ezra Broadus was the most productive running back in the league this week. In 15 carries, he ran for 111 yards as Alhambra fell to Rosemead. Teammate Armando Amaya added to the ground attack by rushing for 22 yards.
Marqus Valenzuela provided a threat through the air and on the ground as the Matadors lost to the Panthers. He completed 28 passes for 274 yards and one touchdown and also ran for 28 yards. Valenzuela's favorite target this week was Larios, who caught four passes for 93 yards.
San Gabriel's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Matadors feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Valenzuela has thrown for 1332 yards and nine touchdowns this season, while Joseph Mayorga has 18 catches for 437 yards. Mayorga leads the league in rushing with 397 yards.
Bell Gardens led the league in scoring this week after putting up 37 points on the Bears.
