Basketball Game Preview: Leake County Gators vs. Mount Olive Pirates

Leake County has gone 10-0 against Mount Olive recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. The Leake County Gators will venture away from home to take on the Mount Olive Pirates at 6:00 p.m. Leake County has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.

Leake County is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. Everything went their way against Stringer on Tuesday as Leake County made off with a 52-28 win. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest victory of the season.

Leake County's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Daishone Turner, who went 7 of 16 en route to 17 points in addition to eight assists and seven boards. That's the most points Turner has posted since back in November of 2023. Sy'Ariah Wraggs was another key player, putting up eight points along with nine rebounds and four steals.

Turner wasn't the only one working in the assists department: Leake County was working as a unit and finished the game with 19 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Meanwhile, Mount Olive was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their 15th straight defeat dating back to last season. They were four points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 36-32 heartbreaker at the hands of Mississippi School for the Deaf.

Leake County's win bumped their record up to 3-11. As for Mount Olive, their loss dropped their record down to 0-11.

Everything came up roses for Leake County against Mount Olive in their previous matchup back in January of 2024, as the team secured a 50-11 victory. In that match, Leake County amassed a halftime lead of 29-7, an impressive feat they'll look to repeat on Thursday.
