Softball Recap: St. Joseph Wins Going Away Against Saint Mary's Hall

St. Joseph owes their pitching crew a big pat on the back after their performance on Tuesday. Everything went their way against the Saint Mary's Hall Barons as St. Joseph made off with an 8-0 win. The result was nothing new for the Flyers, who have now won 13 games by six runs or more so far this season.

Not much got past Shayne Meismer, who gave up just a hit and racked up 15 Ks to keep Saint Mary's Hall off the board. That's the fewest hits Meismer has allowed since back in February.

On the hitting side, St. Joseph let Gianna Morris and Avery Grimsinger run wild. Morris scored three runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-3, while Grimsinger went 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. Morris has been hot recently, having posted two or more stolen bases the last three times she's played. Arianny Handy was another key player, going a perfect 1-for-1 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.

St. Joseph was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Saint Mary's Hall only posted a batting average of .045.

St. Joseph is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-4 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.7 runs over those games. The loss snapped Saint Mary's Hall's winning streak at four games and leaves them with a 9-5-1 record.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. St. Joseph will square off against rival San Antonio Christian at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (St. Joseph 1.7, San Antonio Christian 3.3) so any runs scored will be well earned. Meanwhile, Saint Mary's Hall is set to take on their familiar foe Providence Catholic at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
