With a playoff win on the line, Lancaster rose to the challenge on Thursday. Everything went their way against the Chincoteague Ponies as they made off with a 15-2 win. Considering the Red Devils have won 13 matches by more than six runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Braelyn Johnson was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She tossed 5.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off five hits. Johnson was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two doubles and one RBI. She has been hot recently, having posted three or more hits the last four times she's played.
In other batting news, Lancaster got a massive performance out of Isabella Gill, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and two doubles. Those two doubles gave Gill a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Ayla Saunders, who went 2-for-3 with four RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.
Lancaster kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 19 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
Lancaster's victory was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 15-9. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 16.8 runs over those games. As for Chincoteague, their loss dropped their record down to 11-9.
As of now, neither Lancaster nor the Ponies have any future games scheduled.
