Baseball Recap: Germantown's Victory on Wednesday Extends Winning Streak to Three

Germantown had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 4.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Wednesday. They put the hurt on the Brookfield Central Lancers with a sharp 8-1 win. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 7-1 on Tuesday.

Carter Gordon made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two hits in five consecutive appearances. He was even better at the plate, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with three runs, one double, and one RBI. Those three runs gave him a new career-high.

In other pitching news, Germantown got a great performance from Liam Hagland as he struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits (and only one walk). Hagland has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances.

Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Ty Olszewski, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three stolen bases and three runs. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games he's played. Vinny Inga also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Germantown's record now sits at 13-4. As for Brookfield Central, their loss was their fifth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 8-13.

Coming up, Germantown will challenge Pius XI Catholic at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The Warhawks are facing the Popes at the right time seeing as the Popes are stuck on an eight-game losing streak. As for Brookfield Central, they will venture away from home to square off against Catholic Memorial at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
