Mira Mesa has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will take on The St. Augustine Saints at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Mira Mesa will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps California Rankings (they are ranked 256th, while St. Augustine is ranked 79th).
Last Friday, Mira Mesa didn't have too much trouble with Morse at home as they won 48-29.
Tyson Line continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, throwing for 193 yards and three touchdowns while completing 100% of his passes. Another big playmaker for Mira Mesa was Chris Brown, who returned a punt for a touchdown.
St. Augustine fell on hard times earlier this season, but after back-to-back victories it seems like their luck might finally be changing. They secured a 27-21 W over Cathedral Catholic on Thursday. The score was all tied up 7-7 at the break, but St. Augustine was the better team in the second half.
St. Augustine got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Parker Johnson out in front who rushed for 67 yards and two touchdowns on only seven carries. Johnson was no stranger to the big play, taking off on a dash that went for 52 yards. The team also got some help courtesy of Isaiah Hasten, who picked up 129 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Mira Mesa's victory pushed their record up to 4-6, while St. Augustine's bumped their own up to the opposite: 6-4.
Mira Mesa ended up a good deal behind St. Augustine in their previous meeting back in October of 2017, losing 42-26. Thankfully for Mira Mesa, Deandre Daniels (who rushed for 232 yards and four touchdowns on only 15 carries) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
