ROSWELL, N.M. - After two lead changes,
Gateway Christian (Roswell, N.M.) took the lead for good when
Andrew Meeks thew a touchdown to
Chris Bonham with under a minute left in the second quarter and held on to upset
Tatum (N.M.) 32-26 on Saturday.
The Warriors were up 18-12 at the half after taking the lead on a touchdown pass by Meeks to Bonham in the second quarter.
Gateway Christian expanded its lead to 14 points entering the fourth quarter. GC scored three times in the third, including once on a Meeks touchdown run.
The Roswell school led by as many as 14 points before the Coyotes cut into the final margin.
Timmy Pearce played well for Tatum. The senior running back ran for two touchdowns. He has now scored 24 touchdowns on the season.
Meeks stood out for the Warriors in the win. The junior threw three touchdowns and ran for one touchdown. He has now scored 17 touchdowns on the season.
When the two teams played each other last season, Gateway Christian came away with a 40-34 victory.
The defeat comes as a step back for Tatum, which notched a 28-24 victory over Logan in its previous outing.
