MONROE, La. - Special teams carried
Neville (Monroe, La.) to a 40-10 victory over St. Louis (Lake Charles, La.) on Saturday as the return units contributed two touchdowns. The Tigers's special teams scored on two punt returns.
After taking the lead on a punt return touchdown by
Kavonte Turpin in the first quarter, Neville led 40-3 at the half.
NHS put up 21 points in the second quarter en route to the win. The Monroe school scored on a
Demon Baker touchdown run, a punt return touchdown by Turpin and a
John Diarse touchdown pass to Turpin in the quarter.
The Tigers' standout player in the win was Turpin. The sophomore wide receiver caught one touchdown. He has now scored four touchdowns on the season.
The Saints' Michael Thompson played well. The sophomore kicked one field goal.
St. Louis' lone touchdown came on a 5-yard pass in the fourth quarter.
Led by
Laurence Jones, Neville had given up an average of 6.6 points prior to the contest. The 10 points that SL ended with were well below its average of 17.1 coming into the game.
The defeat comes as a step back for St. Louis, which notched a 26-7 victory over Beau Chene in its previous outing.
