Lowry and Fernley are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2023, but likely not for long. The Buckaroos will square off against the Vaqueros at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday. Lowry is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.3 runs per game this season.
Lowry heads in on the heels of a playoff matchup on Friday. They took a 13-8 hit to the loss column at the hands of Churchill County. The Buckaroos' defeat signaled the end of their eight-game winning streak.
Natalya Guizar made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Isabel Upton, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run.
Meanwhile, Fernley got the win against North Valleys on Friday by a conclusive 20-4. The Vaqueros might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 15 contests by six runs or more this season.
The team relied heavily on Taylor Tollestrup, who went 4-for-5 with one home run, three stolen bases, and five RBI. She has been hot for a while, having posted at least one stolen base the last 19 times she's played. Ximena Rodriguez was another key player, going 4-for-3 with three RBI, two doubles, and one run.
Fernley kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 20 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
Fernley is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight games. That's provided a nice bump to their 26-9 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.4 runs on average over those games. As for Lowry, their loss dropped their record down to 26-7.
Both Lowry and Fernley just can't seem to miss. The Buckaroos have been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 10.6 hits per game. However, it's not like Fernley struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 4.8 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Lowry beat Fernley 5-2 in their previous meeting on Thursday. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Buckaroos since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
