Ephrata has won four straight games at home, while Central York has won four straight on the road, but those streaks won't matter much on Saturday. The Mountaineers will host the Panthers at 1:00 p.m. Ephrata is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7 runs per game this season.
Last Wednesday, Ephrata earned a 7-4 victory over Cedar Crest. The win continues a trend for the Mountaineers in their matchups with the Falcons: they've now won eight in a row.
Collin Miller looked comfortable as he struck out seven batters over 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Those hits were his first of the season.
On the hitting side, JD Muhr and Ty Custer did most of the damage at the plate: Muhr scored three runs and stole two bases while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances, while Custer scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3. That's the most runs Muhr has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Ethan Hunt, who scored a run and stole two bases while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances.
Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Central York challenged Red Lion on Wednesday. The Panthers walked away with a 4-1 victory over the Lions. The game was the first time the Panthers have beaten the Lions on their field since April 11, 2022.
Weston Wagaman made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Wagaman was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with three RBI and one triple.
Wagaman wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Kam Holtzapple, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.
Ephrata's win bumped their record up to 7-2. As for Central York, their victory bumped their record up to 4-5.
Saturday's matchup might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Ephrata has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .459. However, it's not like Central York struggles in that department as they've averaged .448. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
