Softball Recap: Sentinel Picks Up 16th Consecutive Victory

Sentinel extended their winning streak to 16 on Monday, bumping them up to 16-0. They blew past the Hellgate Knights 15-5. Considering the Spartans have won eight matchups by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

McKenna Strab was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over five innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits. Those six strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one home run.

In other batting news, Hayden Slater was a standout: she went 1-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played. Smith Milla also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

Sentinel was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .406. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .357 or higher in three consecutive contests.

As for Hellgate, they are on an 18-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-11. On the bright side, the five- run effort marked their highest-scoring game to date.

On Hellgate's side, they saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Piper Wells, who went 1-for-2 with one run and one double. Another was Nat Blaney, who got on base in two of her three plate appearances with two runs.

Coming up, Sentinel will challenge Big Sky at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Spartans' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Eagles have averaged an impressive 9.8 runs per game this season. As for Hellgate, they will take on Helena at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
