This season hasn't been kind to The Atkinson County Rebels, who are still winless after their eighth game. They had to suffer through a rough 42-7 loss at the hands of Clinch County. While losing is never fun, Atkinson County can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia football rankings (they are ranked 431st, while Clinch County is ranked 133rd).
Clinch County was led to victory by Jeremy Bell and Aaron Bryant. Bell gained 89 total yards and three touchdowns, while Bryant rushed for 119 yards and a touchdown on only seven carries. Bryant was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 64 yards.
Atkinson County's loss was their seventh straight at home (dating back to last season), which dropped their overall record down to 0-8. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 10-2 McIntosh County Academy and 8-3 Charlton County (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 67.2% over those games). As for Clinch County, the win was the seventh in a row for they, bringing their record for this year to 8-1.
Atkinson County will head out on the road to face off against Lanier County at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Clinch County, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Charlton County at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Charlton County will be hoping to continue their three-game streak of scoring more points each matchup than the last.
