Basketball Recap: Freedom Skates Past Woodbridge with Ease

You can't lose the game if you win every quarter, and that was precisely Freedom's strategy against Woodbridge on Friday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that the Freedom Eagles blew the Woodbridge Vikings out of the water with a 63-28 final score. The Eagles have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won eight contests by 25 points or more this season.

Freedom's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Keilani Johnson led the charge by dropping a double-double on 18 points and ten steals. The game was Johnson's fourth in a row with at least ten points. Keilana Johnson was another key player, going 8 for 12 on her way to 18 points in addition to six boards and six steals.

Freedom was working as a unit and finished the game with ten assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Woodbridge only racked up two assists.

Woodbridge's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Audrina Johnson, who posted eight points. The team also got some help courtesy of Maia Melendez, who had 13 points.

Freedom's win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 11-6. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 27 points. As for Woodbridge, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-9 record this season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Freedom has already played their next contest (against Forest Park), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Woodbridge will face off against Potomac Senior at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
