Moscow has gone 9-1 against Lakeland recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Saturday. The Bears are taking a road trip to take on the Hawks at 10:00 a.m. Moscow has given up an average of 11 runs per game this season, but Saturday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Moscow came up short against Lewiston on Tuesday, falling 17-9. The Bears have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Sam Rigney put in work while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run over 4.2 innings pitched. What's more, he gave up only zero earned runs, the fewest he's had since back in April of 2025. He was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all five of his plate appearances with two RBI and one double.
In other batting news, Javen Barton was cooking despite his team's loss, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. Austin Mallett was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs.
Meanwhile, Lakeland hadn't done well against Lewiston recently (they were 0-9 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. The Hawks came out on top in a nail-biter against the Golden Bengals, sneaking past 7-5.
The team relied heavily on Nate Bevacqua, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and one double. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. Griffin Tamagni also deserves some recognition as he hit his first triple of the season.
Lakeland kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
Moscow now has a losing record of 3-4. As for Lakeland, their win ended a six-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 5-5.
Moscow beat Lakeland 7-3 when the teams last played back in April of 2025. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Bears since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
